Norm spoke on the the Maturity Income policy from the MBA. The new interest rate payable through September of 2010 is 5 1/2%. Norm also noted that open season for Health Benefits will end December 14, 2009

The release of the latest consumer price index shows no increase in the cost of living, therefore there is no accumulation towards the next Cost of Living (COLA).

Branch by-laws call for steward elections January of every even year therefore if you would like to run for steward in your assigned unit please notify your present steward or call the union hall @ 427-2450 and we will prepare ballots for the election in your unit. Deadline for notifying the union office of your desire to run for Steward is December 31, 2009, ballots will be mailed out in January, 2010.

It is combined Federal Campaign time again and the Postal Relief Fund is #10268

On November 21 all Letter Carrier will receive a 1.9% pay increase. You will see this pay increase in your December 11 paycheck. Top pay CC-1 carriers will receive 45 cents per hour increase. TE's are also included in the wage increase at the CC-1 step A PTF level.

The annual penalty time exclusionary period is December 5 through January 1, 2010. During this period there is no Penalty overtime (V-Time). All overtime will be paid at time and a half.

The union advises you to never sign a 2488 form from the Postal Service. This form allows the Postal Medical unit to get your private medical information from your personal physician. the Postal Service is using this information to keep carriers out of work and try to place the carrier out on disability. Don't let the Postal Service invade your privacy and give them free access to your private medical files, they don't have that right unless you give it to them. The Hippa law was written for your protection don't give it away. If ordered to sign a 2488 form notify the union office immediately.

The union recently had an arbitration regarding management's refusal to consider 2nd class mail as preferential mail. Management was saying that 2nd class periodicals were the same as standard mail and they could curtail them to create undertime. The union won the arbitration and it was ordered that all periodicals are in fact preferential mail and will be recorded as such. As preferential mail, periodicals can no longer be curtailed to create undertime. Anytime you are told to leave behind periodicals or 2nd class magazines you should fill out a 1571 and record that mail as preferential delayed.

The medical unit in Rochester is being eliminated. The Postal Service is outsourcing the medical unit work.

The MDA raffle for December has begun and we will post the winners list at the beginning of January once the raffle is complete. If you have bought a ticket look to the evening daily 3 way number in the NY lottery for the winning number. If you win you will receive a check in the mail.

On behalf of the Officers and Stewards of Branch 210, we would like to wish the entire membership a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza and to all a Happy and Healthy New Year!!!

The next Union meeting is scheduled for Wednesday January 26, 2010 at 7:00pm and will be held at the Valencia's Restaurant which is located on Long Pond Road in Gates.

And finally I would like to invite more members to Union meetings to learn what is happening with your Union.
