The meeting was called to order by President Art Muoio at 7:00pm. A motion to
dispense with the reading of the previous meeting minutes was made and passed.
Norm LeFrois spoke on the NALC Health plan. The Health plan is going to make
some mid-year changes to the PPO network. More information will be forecoming.
Joe Dimaria reminded the membership about the upcoming Labor Day parade onn
Monday September 6, 2010. We will be meeting at Strathallen just off East Ave.
at 10:30am. Refreshments and tee shirts will be available at the end of the
parade. Kids are always welcome to participate.
The release of the latest consumer price index
shows no increase in the cost of living, therefore there is no accumulation
towards the next Cost of Living (COLA).
There
is a Bill in Congress HR. 5746 which allows the congress to take the overpayment
to the CSRS retirement fund and use it against the Postal Debt and fully fund
the future retiree health benefits. This requirement to fund this is the only
reason the POstal Service has not shown a profit the last 3 years. the ammount
that the Servcie has overfunded is between $55 and $75 Billion dollars.
The branch will be holding a stewards training class on September 19 from 1pm
till 5 at Valencia's Resturaunt in Gates. It is manditory for all branch 210 stewards.
Jack O'Connor is hosting a Columbus Day golf tournament at Victor Hills golf
course again this year. The tournament is a 4 man scramble and will be on
October 11. the cost is $50 per golfer and includes hot dogs, hamburgs and
sausage all day and a buffet meal at the end. Please sign up by the October
union meeting October 6 with Jack. Proceeds go to help fight ovarian cancer in
Jack's late wife Bonnie's name.
The Postal Service has asked us to remind the membership of the importance to
scan all delivery confirmation scans. Our customers pay for this service and we
must provide it if we are to compete with UPS and FedEx.
The Branch will again hold the Bowl-a-thon for MDA.
The bowl-a-thon will be held November 7, 2010. The cost will be $25.00 per
person.
The Branch has Labor Film ticketa available should any member want them. There
is no cost to the membership for these tickets. Call the union office for
details.
The Nominations for National Officers took place at the convention in California
and our current Business Agent Dan Toth was nominated for the position. He does
have opposition in this race.
The officers discussed the events from the National convention. Classes were
attended every day by your officers. Classes such as Route adjustments,
Compensation, contract administration, grievance handling and appeals, MDA and
Food Drive to name a few.
Art informaed the membership that the National President asked the delegates
permission to attempt to open contract negotiations now. He would like to
negotiate a contract as the APWU is in negotiation and we do not wnat any APWU
arbitrators to sway our negotiating abilities. The delegates gave him that
permission and he will now ask the Postal Service if they would be willing to
negotiate now instead of waiting till next year.
This is an election year for Branch 210's officers. Elcetions in Branch 210 take
place every three years and nominations are held at the regular union meeting in
November. This year the nominations will take place on November 3, 2010 at
Valencia's restaurant which is located on Long Pond Road in Gates. Meeting
begins at 7:00pm. Should there be opposition to any of the nominations the
election shall take place and the ballots tallied for the December union
meeting.
The next Union meeting is the return to regular branch meeting an is open to all
members. It is scheduled for Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 7:00pm and will be held at the
Valencia's Restaurant which is located on Long Pond Road in Gates.
