There is a Bill in Congress HR. 5746 which allows the congress to take the overpayment to the CSRS retirement fund and use it against the Postal Debt and fully fund the future retiree health benefits. This requirement to fund this is the only reason the POstal Service has not shown a profit the last 3 years. the ammount that the Servcie has overfunded is between $55 and $75 Billion dollars.

The Nominations for National Officers took place at the convention in California and our current Business Agent Dan Toth was nominated for the position. He does have opposition in this race.

The officers discussed the events from the National convention. Classes were attended every day by your officers. Classes such as Route adjustments, Compensation, contract administration, grievance handling and appeals, MDA and Food Drive to name a few.

Art informaed the membership that the National President asked the delegates permission to attempt to open contract negotiations now. He would like to negotiate a contract as the APWU is in negotiation and we do not wnat any APWU arbitrators to sway our negotiating abilities. The delegates gave him that permission and he will now ask the Postal Service if they would be willing to negotiate now instead of waiting till next year.
