FOR $135.50
MICHELLE IS A LETTER CARRIER FROM ROCHESTER,
ZONE 17
CONGRATULATIONS MICHELLE!
The meeting was called to
order by President Art Muoio at 7:00pm. A motion to dispense with the reading of
the previous meeting minutes was made and passed.
The Labor Day
Parade held and those that attended had a great time and enjoyed refreshments
provided by the Branch. We would like to see a better turn-out next year. we
only had about 25 carriers out of 1400 members of Branch 210 march this year.
Norm spoke on Health Benefits and spoke briefly on
the new law passed in NY pertaining to coverage for
unmarried children up to the age of 29. Norm researched this issue and it was
determined that this is a State l;aw and the Postal Service is not covered under
State law. We are a Federal organization and therefore are governed by Federal
law, which does not have the same provision as this New State law therefore the
extension of benefits to children over 22 does NOT apply to postal workers.
Open Season for Health Benefits this year will be
November 9, 2009 through December 14, 2009. If you want to make changes to your
Health coverage this would be the time to make those changes. Norm will be
holding open houses during the open season period to answer any questions you
might have regarding your coverage. Look to your bulletin boards for a flyer
soon regarding these open houses.
Kevin Montgomery has recently been appointed to the
political COPE Chairman of the Labor Council, President Muoio has now appointed
Kevin as our Political Director. Kevin will be informing the branch on
legislation that affect letter carriers.
The release of the latest consumer price index
shows no increase in the cost of living, therefore there is no accumulation
towards the next Cost of Living (COLA).
During this years telethon MDA raised 60.5 Million
dollars, Branch 210 contributed raised
$5264 of that amount. We will continue to hold the June and December fundraisers as they appear
to be successful. The Branch will be holding a Bowl-a-Thon to raise
funds for MDA. This event will be held in conjunction with a National
bowl-a-Thon on November 1, 2009. It is planned at Clover Lanes in Rochester and
will be $25 per bowler. There will be raffles, prizes, pizza, pop and fun. It
doesn't matter if you are great bowler or not there will be opportunities for
all to win prizes throughout the day.
The Branch would like to thank Mark Rivet for his
work as Steward in 14607. Mark has stepped down for personal reasons.
Jack O'Connor notified the membership that he will
be holding the Columbus Day golf tournament again this year. the cost is $50 per
person and includes Longest drive, Closest to the pin, HOTS, Hamburgs and
Sausage all day, and a buffet dinner. $10 per person of your fee will go to
Ovarian Cancer research. There will be an 11:00am Shotgun start. The tournament
is held at Victor Hills on October 12.
With the excessing of letter carriers in the city
delivery zones the carriers excessed (lost their routes or utilities) as per
Article 12 of the contract will retain retreat rights to the first opening in
the delivery zone where they were excessed. therefore if a
delivery zone has excessed an employee any vacant route will only be up for bid
for the employees in that delivery zone in the job classification where the
employee was excessed. If a regular with a route was excessed then bidding is
restricted to route holders in that zone. If a utility is excessed then any
utility opening in that zone, bidding is restricted to just utilities in that
zone until the excessed employee is returned or refuses to return. After all
excessed employees have exercised their retreat rights the jobs will again go up
for bid in the City. Not all units are excessing and there will still be some
citywide bidding.
On October 2, 2009 the Branch will hold it annual
retirees Breakfast to honor our 50 and 60 year members. The breakfast is free to

September 25 if you plan to attend. The breakfast will be held at the Wishing
Well Party House beginning at 9:00am.
the Western NY district has been moved to the
Eastern area and as of October 1 we will no longer be under the Northeast area.
Our new Postal Area is based in Pittsburgh.
The Union meetings are again general membership and
the next Union meeting is scheduled for Wednesday October 7, 2009 at 7:00pm and will be held at the
Valencia's Restaurant which is located on Long Pond Road in Gates.
And finally I would like to invite
more members to Union meetings to learn what is happening with your Union.
