Norm spoke on Health Benefits and discussed the vast increase on most health plans during the upcoming open season (November 9 - December 14, 2009). It is imperative that you review your coverage before this open season as once it is closed there is no way to change your plan. Norm will be holding open houses to help you make an informed decision for your and your families health care needs for the upcoming year.

Below is a schedule for rates of the most popular plans it is important to research these plans and make the best decision for your families. The release of the latest consumer price index shows no increase in the cost of living, therefore there is no accumulation towards the next Cost of Living (COLA).

We have received many phone calls regarding the changing of the drivers side mirrors. After checking with National we have learned this is an approved modification made Nationally. Only Nationally approved modifications can be made to the vehicles.

Greg reported on the status of the membership in general. Currently Branch 210 has 881 active carriers, 402 retirees plus 91 life members for a total of 1374 members.

Art told the membership that we have contracted a roofer to install a new roof on the Union office. the present roof is a slate roof and is in need of replacement due to a leak and lose of slate shingles. We received requested several bids from different contractors and the decision was made to take the best bid received.

It is almost combined Federal Campaign time again and the Postal Relief Fund is #10268

The Branch will be holding a Bowl-a-Thon to raise funds for MDA. This event will be held in conjunction with a National bowl-a-Thon on November 1, 2009. It is planned at Clover Lanes in Rochester and will be $25 per bowler. There will be raffles, prizes, pizza, pop and fun. It doesn't matter if you are great bowler or not there will be opportunities for all to win prizes throughout the day.

Kenny informed the membership that we have lost the curtail mail to pivot arbitration case that we had. The Arbitrator ruled that the decision we had regarding curtailing mail to pivot did not set a precedent and would not apply to any future issue.

There is an insurance company that is asking for your employee ID # and PIN # to put an allotment in for you. The Branch advices you to NOT give your ID # nor your PIN to anyone for any reason. These numbers control your paycheck and you do not know what this person is going to do with the information once he gets it. This is how Identity theft happens, protect yourself and your PIN #.

The Branch would like to welcome Thomas Mawn as the new Union Steward in Brockport.

With the excessing of letter carriers in the city delivery zones the carriers excessed (lost their routes or utilities) as per Article 12 of the contract will retain retreat rights to the first opening in the delivery zone where they were excessed. therefore as per Article 12 if a delivery zone has excessed an employee any vacant route will only be up for bid for the employees in that delivery zone in the job classification where the employee was excessed. If a regular with a route was excessed then bidding is restricted to route holders in that zone. If a utility is excessed then any utility opening in that zone, bidding is restricted to just utilities in that zone until the excessed employee is returned or refuses to return. After all excessed employees have exercised their retreat rights the jobs will again go up for bid in the City. Not all units are excessing and there will still be some citywide bidding.

On October 2, 2009 the Branch held its annual retirees Breakfast to honor our 50 and 60 year members. The breakfast was attended by 130 retirees and there families. Click here to see photos of the breakfast

The next Union meeting is scheduled for Wednesday November 4, 2009 at 7:00pm and will be held at the Valencia's Restaurant which is located on Long Pond Road in Gates.

And finally I would like to invite more members to Union meetings to learn what is happening with your Union.
