UNION MEETING HAPPENINGS JUNE 2011 50/50 WINNER FOR JUNE WASJIM NICHOLAS! FOR $133.00 JIM IS A LETTER CARRIER FROM THE ROCHESTER 14612 OFFICE. CONGRATULATIONS JIM! The meeting was called to order by President Kenny Montgomery at 7:00pm. A motion to dispense with the reading of the previous meeting minutes was made and passed without dissent. Norm LeFrois discussed the long term care open season which runs from April 4 - June 24, 2011. click here (ltcfeds.com) to go to there Long term care for FEDS website for information on obtaining long term care insurance OR CALL 1-800-582-3337. Norm will be attending the health benefits seminar in October to learn of the new changes for the upcoming Health benefits open season in November of this year. Norm discussed briefly the different life insurance plans available to the membership including transitional carriers through the MBA. Art Muoio gave the AFL-CIO report and told the membership that workers Memorial day on April 28, 2011 had been cancelled due to inclement weather. He then spoke about the election of Kathy Hochul to the 26th district in congress during the recent special election. The release of the latest consumer price index shows a $832 increase in the cost of living so far, the final tally for the COLA will be following the release of the CPI index in July. President Kenny Montgomery discussed COLCPE and the importance of giving to COLCPE. If you can't afford to give the $5 per pay period that the NALC has asked for then $1 or $2 per pay-period is good as well. there is a current COLCPE contest by National and we are up against 3 other branches. If we can top those other 3 branches in automatic donors we will win (4) $100 gift cards that we can raffle off to the members that are giving to COLCPE. Kenny then spoke about congress wanting to tap into your TSP G fund to help fund the budget. Congress said that you money is safe but they also said the same thing when they used 1.4 trillion from Social Security now we are told social Security is broke. congress has also hinted at borrowing from your retirement to fund the budget. we must tell our representatives NO. that is our money to be used for our retirement years, not to be used for their budget. Safety should be on everyone's mind, the Postmaster has asked me to tell the membership when driving you should all slow down and drive safely and professionally. With spring here it is important to remember to curb your wheels when parking, use seatbelts, close door when traveling between park points. Also keep all mail in the back of the LLV when working park and loop delivery. The Darien Lake picnic will be July 10 this year and prices are $20 for members and immediate family $30 for guests. Food only tickets available for season tickets holders for $8. Ticket deadline is July 1, 2011. results of the MDA find raiser will be announced at the meeting in August however a list of winners will be posted on this site in early July. The Brighton move has been postponed. Brighton 14610 station will be moving into Panorama 14625 station on June 25, 2011. Past President Art Muoio will be honored on June 11, 2011 with a retirement party. 1 hour open bar followed by an Italian buffet and DJ music after dinner. cost is $50 per person. contact the union office for more details and to sign up. FSS began on May 24 for the stations scheduled to receive FSS mail. Management has sole discretion on making route adjustments in an FSS environment and they have already stated COR will be used. the union is not be allowed to assist in these route adjustments and we are already being told major territory adjustment are happening. Once the changes are implemented carriers should not skip lunches and breaks just to make managements numbers. If your route is overburdened then you must show it consistently. There will be a 60 day review where the union has the ability to insist routes get re-adjusted however you must show the time during that 60 day period. Next months meeting is changed due to the officers attending the NY state convention on July 6,7 and 8th. next months union meeting will be held on June 29th, one week early. The next Union meeting is a summer session meeting per our branch by-laws an is open to officers and stewards only. It is scheduled for Wednesday June 29, 2011 at 7:00pm and will be held at the IBEW union hall located at 2300 East River Road, Rochester NY 14623.
