HAPPENINGS

JULY 2011

50/50 WINNER FOR JULY WAS

KEN MAHNS!

FOR $107.00

KEN IS A LETTER CARRIER FROM THE HILTON OFFICE.

 CONGRATULATIONS KEN!

The meeting was called to order by President Kenny Montgomery at 7:00pm. A motion to dispense with the reading of the previous meeting minutes was made and passed without dissent.

Norm LeFrois discussed the MBA privacy policy that was recently mailed to the membership. This is a legal obligation the M<BA has to protect your information and they are merely notifying you of their efforts. Norm will be attending the health benefits seminar in October. he hopes to bring good news back to the membership regarding rates and benefits from your union health plan. Norm informed those that are already members of the health plan that new cards are going our to you very soon so look for them in the mail.

Joe DiMaria gave the AFL-CIO report and told the membership about the up coming Labor Day Parade. President Montgomery asked that all stewards please attend the parade and bring one person from their office. we need a strong showing to show those that want to hurt our employment that we will not stand for the same action taken in Wisconsin. a lot of politicians show up top the parade and it would be a good showing to them that we care about our jobs.

The release of the latest consumer price index shows a $1,019 increase in the cost of living so far, the final tally for the COLA will be following the release of the CPI index in July.

Political Director Kevin Montgomery discussed some of the legislation coming out of Washington right now and the detriment it would cause. One bill in particular would give the Postal Service the right to go to 5 day delivery, and could wipe out our contract. this bill would give the authority to the government to renegotiate our contracts at any time they want and change the contract if we don't agree.

Safety should be on everyone's mind, the district manager has asked that we remind everyone to take the dog warning cards on the street every day....even if you are the regular carrier. dogs are a growing problem for us and we need to be vigilant.

The Darien Lake picnic will be July 10 this year and prices are $20 for members and immediate family $30 for guests. Food only tickets available for season tickets holders for $8. Ticket deadline is July 5, 2011.

Results of the MDA fund raiser are published on this website and are available by clicking here,.

Past President Art Muoio was honored on June 11, 2011 with a retirement party. Art thanked the membership for the time he spent as President as well as thanking those that helped plan the event. executive Vice-President Tim O'Malley flew in from Washington D.C. to help celebrate art's retirement as did congresswoman Louise Slaughter. In all we had about 140 people attend.

FSS began on May 24 for the stations scheduled to receive FSS mail. Management has sole discretion on making route adjustments in an FSS environment and they have already stated COR will be used. the union is not be allowed to assist in these route adjustments and we are already being told major territory adjustment are happening. Once the changes are implemented carriers should not skip lunches and breaks just to make managements numbers. If your route is overburdened then you must show it consistently. There will be a 60 day review where the union has the ability to insist routes get re-adjusted however you must show the time during that 60 day period.

The MDA bowl-a-thon is scheduled for Sunday November 6, 2011 at Clover Lanes, registration is at noon and we begin bowling at 1. It is $25 per bowler and we are looking for donations for prizes. Any help is appreciated. we are always looking for food donations as well from any area restaurants.

the branch will be participating in this years MDA telethon and are looking for 5 people willing to answer phones for an hour on Sunday evening around 7pm. If interested call Kenny Montgomery at 427-2450.

The next Union meeting is a summer session meeting per our branch by-laws an is open to officers and stewards only. It is scheduled for Wednesday August 3, 2011 at 7:00pm and will be held at the IBEW union hall located at 2300 East River Road, Rochester NY 14623.
