The meeting was called to order by President Kenny Montgomery at 7:00pm. A motion to dispense with the reading of the previous meeting minutes was made and passed without dissent. Norm LeFrois discussed Federal Group Life Insurance or FEGLI. once an employee reaches age 50 - 55 the premium for option B begins to skyrocket and the NALC has many life insurance plans available to our membership that are more affordable options. The MBA offers a 10-year term policy that is very affordable and is convertible to a whole life policy as well as fully renewable at the end of the 10 year initial period. contact the union office for more information on the Term policy with many different payment options available. the district office has informed us that they will be increasing the number of scans that must be made. they now have the ability to have 15 street scans and 3 additional office scans on every route. It is not our job to place bar codes on mailboxes. It is management's responsibility to place and remove any barcodes for scanning. Let them do their own jobs. The Postal Service has stated they will be increasing their street observations during the winter months so make sure you protect yourselves by using seatbelts at all times, close your doors before you pull away from the curb, use you turn signals pulling to and away from curbs, always use the satchel and dog spray and wear the proper footwear. Remember Safety does not take a backseat to getting done by 6:00pm. your safety comes first. The MDA raffle is complete click here to see a list of winners. The branch raised $2412.24 for MDA this period. President Kenny Montgomery stated we are in negotiations for a new building to house our union hall. the members will be updated on the progress and a report will be made at the February union meeting. when you are injured on the job please call the union office so we can advice you on how to proceed with the proper paperwork. don't try it on your own as it will only delay your treatment and payment through compensation. National has announced a dues increase of 39 cents per pay period which will be reflected in your January 6th paycheck. Article 8 forced overtime continues to be an issue in the branch. Remember the Dispatch of Value is not recognized by the NALC and grievances should be continued to be filed when this happens. Also it is important to remember that when forcing a carrier to work overtime management must rotate who is being forced to work by juniority. They cannot always force the same person to work overtime. The annual penalty overtime exclusion ended December 30. V-time pay is now back enforce. The 2012 leave year does not begin until January 14, 2012. It is your responsibility to ensure you have enough leave to cover the requested weeks so if you bid the first 2 weeks in January you must have sufficient leave in 2011 to cover the request. Vacation bidding should be concluded or close to conclusion at this time for the 2012 leave year. When bidding please fill out 2 3971 leave requests for each week you are bidding on. Management will sign and date stamp the forms and return a copy to you.
