Norm LeFrois discussed insurance scams that we have become aware of recently. If
you are receiving any solicitations at work for anything form a private company
that is against Postal rules and is not allowed. some insurance companies are
sending mailings to your post office in your name making it look official. If
you receive any of these solicitations notify the branch office immediately and
tell your steward to file a grievance to stop it. some of these solicitations
are trying to get people to drop the Federal Health Benefits program. If you are
near retirement or are already retired and you drop the Health Benefits program
then you are not allowed back in. Be very careful when changing your health
benefits as it could affect your future benefits. notify Norm before leaving the
health benefits program. some of the Health insurance companies are trying to
get you to agree to on-line brochures, remember we make a living by the
mail....make them send you a brochure through the mail.
Walt Simoni gave the AFL-CIO report and told the membership about the up coming
Labor Day Parade. he went on to tell the members about the new contract for the
CWA phone workers as well as telling the membership that labor film series
tickets are available to the members at no cost. Call the office to get tickets.
The release of the latest consumer price index shows a $956 increase in the cost of living so far, the final tally for the COLA
will be following the release of the CPI index in July.
Political Director Kevin Montgomery discussed the
Postal services desire to go to 5-day delivery now and soon change to 3-day
delivery, If that happens the letter carriers will no longer be full time
employees and there will be no pension no health benefits, no leave earned and
your pay will be cut at least in half. the Postal service wants to go to 3-day
delivery in the next 15 years so if you have more than 15 years to work till
retirement you might have to worry about your future. what the Postmaster
general did not say is when they will go to 4-day delivery. It will probably try
in less than 15 years to got o the 4-day delivery first and that could affect
many more employees. the time is now to act, write your congressman or woman,
give to COLCPE, become an e-activist, get involved.
President Kenny Montgomery informed the membership that we have entered into an
agreement to sell the union office. A suitable replacement is being looked for
and we will update the membership when one is found. Kenny has put together a
housing committee to look for a suitable facility and the committee will report
its findings. The sale window will be approximately 6-9 months due to approval
period of buyer.
The Darien Lake picnic was attended by 339 people and all enjoyed themselves.

If you need to see a doctor and you have made an appointment, your supervisor
cannot keep you from that appointment. they may threaten you with discipline and
they even may issue a letter of warning. we will fight the discipline as you
have a right to see a doctor. If you are making the appointment on your day off
then by all means keep your doctors visit. A trip to the doctor today may avoid
a sick call tomorrow.
